Bringing
India to
San Diego

OUR FESTIVALS

One of the major objectives of San Diego Indian American Society is to share Indian culture and values with our brothers and sisters of United States in general and San Diego in particular. Towards this end, SDIAS organizes three events every year

Unity in Diversity:
Festival of Dances

A vibrant celebration of Indian classical, folk, and modern dance, alongside global performances from Asia, Europe, and South America. Held annually at the Poway Center for Performing Arts since 2005, the event showcases professionally choreographed performances that highlight cultural richness and artistic expression.

Each show blends tradition and storytelling, offering audiences a memorable afternoon of unity through the universal language of dance. Distinguished guests, including community leaders like Jeff Light and Tom Karlo, have been honored at this celebration of global harmony.

Festival of Lights:
Diwali Celebrations

One of India’s most cherished festivals, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and righteousness over ignorance. Held annually in San Diego’s historic Balboa Park, this event showcases the cultural and spiritual significance of lighting lamps, rooted in ancient traditions across India.

Diwali marks key legends like Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya and Krishna’s victory over Narakasura, while also being observed by Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists, and others as a time of reflection, renewal, and unity.

Festival of Dolls:
Navratri Celebrations

A Navaratri celebration that blends faith and art to honor the divine feminine energy present in all of us. Centered around Goddess Durga and her nine avatars, the festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil and promotes inner reflection, spiritual growth, and balance between creative energies.

The event features a unique display of dolls arranged on nine ascending steps, representing the soul’s journey toward higher consciousness through compassion, wisdom, and harmony.
